Fasting works...miracles this week!
Last week when we talked to Luke he was a little bummed that his area was struggling. It's hard to travel around the mission and still find success in your own area. Also this area is known for being hard. I told Luke we were going to fast for him. I remember when my family fasted for me when I was on my mission and I remember the miracles that happened after they did.
We fasted yesterday and it was awesome to hear Luke start the conversation today with "We had a miracle this week!" Fasting works! Saturday night they were walking home and there was a lady that stopped them and asked them if they would come and teach her family! WHAT!??! That was a miracle in and of itself! Another miracle is that this woman is married! That is one obstacle the missionaries face all the time, couples living together and not married. So that was a tender mercy. So they went and taught Mirta and Juan Ramone. They had a great discussion. Sadly they weren't able to come to church because they had an accident. They were hit by a motorcycle and had head trauma. But later in the week they invited them to have a lesson at a recent converts house. They were on the way there (walking quite a distance) and Juan called and said he was going to have to cancel. Luke had a prompting to try harder to urge them to come. So he explained to them that he and Elder Reyes had walked all the way there for over 30 minutes and would really like to meet with them. He said they could keep it short and just meet for 15 minutes. Juan said "Oh! Ok, we'll come!"
They met at Carina and Hector's house and come to find out the two couples used to be friends but had a falling out. That might have been why they were hesitant to come. They did come and had a great discussion about the Plan of Salvation. They even put them on date for baptism for July 1st! And then after the great discussion Mirta and Carina both apologized and said they felt bad about their fight. They were able to mend past fences! What a beautiful tender mercy!
Luke and Elder Reyes have been busy with zone conferences, and Mission Leadership Conference, and then they even had to submit ideas for the transfer board to President Reber. Never a dull moment! And he's learning so much. Grateful for this week's miracles!
