Heading to San Ignacio today....so just a quick update!
We didn't get to talk to Luke for long today because he is taking a bus to San Ignacio. San Ignacio is one of the many missions founded in 1610 in Argentina by the Jesuits in what the colonial Spaniards called the Province of Paraguay of the Americas during the Spanish colonial period. The ruins there are one of the best preserved of Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina. There are remains of a church, cemetery, a monastery and houses. I can't wait to see Luke's pictures after his visit! He's so excited because most P-days consist of them playing around at the church building. Glad he gets to go out and explore!
He did give us an update on some of his friends...(they had a great week and had 6 people at church!)
They found a new family to work with names the Familia Gonzalez. They are a family of 6 and years ago the mom and kids joined the church but went inactive. The records didn't even have the name of the father and so it seemed like he wasn't very interested. Luke and Elder Childs went to visit them and met the dad named Javier. At first he acted like he wasn't interested and he was only in the room because the elders needed another male. But as they got talking to him he opened up and told them he grew up without a knowledge of God and without talk of him in their home. So they started out the discussion talking about God and how he is our father and how he loves us. Luke said the Spirit was very strong. By the end of the discussion they introduced him to the Book of Mormon and committed the family to read it together. They found out they fulfilled their commitment and read this week! And they were going to come to church but Javier's boss passed away and they were unable to come. But they are planning on coming next week! So exciting to have a whole family growing closer together through the gospel of Jesus Christ!
One day this week they were walking down the street and a girl flagged them down and told them she took the discussions once but wasn't in a place in her life where she could take the time to take it seriously. But now she wants to take the discussions again! Her name is Sophia and she even came to church and has a desire to be baptized! What a great tender mercy to meet her!
Their friend Marta, who is the aunt of one of the members, is still doing great and came to church!
Gustavo and Natalia are still doing great! They read from the Book of Mormon everyday, he even reads at work! They are continuing to come to church and have a desire to be baptized. They aren't married but plan to be. In fact it was so neat because when the elders shared the Law of Chastity with them they said they were already talking about how they should get married! The Spirit was preparing them!
It was a short but great visit on the phone. Of course this time of year kills Luke because Utah State's Aggies just made it into the NCAA Tournament (very exciting!!!! They are a number 10 seed) So not being able to watch the games "hurts his soul" :) ha ha ha! But he loves updates from his dad every week :)
Love my sweet missionary and so proud of his hard work and love of the work and of the people there in Argentina!!!
