Veron Family got baptized!!! AND....ARGENTINA WON THE WORLD CUP!!!
Luke was so excited to share with us the amazing baptism of the Veron Family!!!! It was the father Abel, the mother Debra, and one of their kids (the other is too young). Luke said this is the coolest change that he has seen in a person ever. Abel was from a rough city that was full of gang violence, drugs, etc. and that was a part of his life. When the missionaries first met him he didn't have a job and even threatened to commit suicide. Now he has embraced the gospel and made huge changes in his life. In fact Luke said he gets up every morning at 5:00 am to read the Book of Mormon!
Luke was able to give Debra the Gift of the Holy Ghost and said this is the first time he has ever done that. Luke was so excited for all the ward to come to a baptism of a family and then he found out there was a stake choir concert. He was so bummed! But then it rained and the concert was supposed to be outside and so the concert was canceled!!!! So there was a great group there to support the Veron Family! The Stake President was there and had met with Abel and he came up to the Elders and said "That man is a changed man!" It is so neat to see the changes the gospel brings. In fact 3 years ago the Veron family were attending another Christian church that was very corrupt. The pastor was using the tithing money for his own gain and so they were a bit concerned when they learned about tithing considering their past bad experience. But the Elder's Quorum President talked to them and bore testimony of tithing and they felt the Spirit and were able to overcome their concerns. Such a neat story! And Luke had always wanted to find a whole family to bring into the gospel, so this was an amazing experience for Luke! He said when Abel came out he just cried and hugged Luke and his companion!
He had a great week...their was a ward Christmas party, and on P-day last week they went paint balling (Luke went in shorts and a t-shirt so needless to say he had major welts after :) But I think the highlight of the week was when Argentina won the WORLD CUP!!! Luke didn't get to watch the game but they would hear a cannon go off everytime Argentina scored! The game was happening during church so NO ONE was at church :) But when they won the city was going CRAZY!!!! There were people out all over the streets and the little beach area near the river. And people were drunk like crazy! I seriously can't believe Luke is there in Argentina during this exciting time! How COOL!!!! He'll never forget this time!
