Phone Call with Elder Rose 11.22.21

I know it has only  been a week since we talked, but it felt like it had been a whole year since we talked to Elder Rose!  So we were all very excited to talk to him today.  He seemed in good spirits and had tons of things to tell us.  Here's some of the stories he shared:

  • He told us in the mornings they usually do some Facebook work.  They send random messages to people on Facebook.  This week Luke sent one to a lady and ended up meeting with her on the phone and they talked with her about 15 minutes.  Excited to see if it leads to anything
  • This week they also went and visited some less actives.  This family lives out in the middle of nowhere.  They all have some mental challenges and so they talk slowly.  Luke told them they are his favorite family because he can understand them the best!  :)  They ended up coming to their baptism on Saturday and then church on Sunday.
  • They visited another part member family.  The husband is a member and the wife is not but she has read the Book of Mormon 3 times!  Luke said it's so frustrating to see members not making it a priority to go to church and live up to their covenants.
So they're working hard to find people to bring to the gospel or to bring back to the gospel!

Another funny thing he shared:
  • There was a homeless guy in his underwear.  He was wearing a cross and when he saw the missionaries he held it up to them.  Luke smiled and thought he was pointing out that they have Christ in common.  But actually the guy started yelling at them.  He was angry that Luke would smile when he held up the cross.
He said the members are feeding them often so they really don't fix food for themselves.  He said they've been so busy this week they didn't get to do much service.  They did help push a truck that was stuck. :)  I don't know why I thought that was so funny :)

I got to meet his companion Elder Ramos.  He seems like such a cool guy!  I told him he was an answet to prayers.  I prayed Luke would get a good companion and he has been blessed!  He said "Elder Rose is a great missionary!  He loves the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and he loves the people." I thought it was so cute because Luke said that many times Elder Ramos will make Luke breakfast!  How sweet is that?  What a great companion that serves his partner!

He said that the Ward Council is so awesome.  They really focus on trying to grow their branch to become a Stake and ultimately to get a temple.  So now that is Luke's goal, to help them get a temple.

My mom heart was happy talking to him today.  I'm so proud of him and glad he is working so hard to get the language down.
